WHAT SCAMPPS HAVE BEEN UP TO 2018 & 2019……

Safari Pete – Meeting the animals

In July we all met the Amazing Safari Pete and his wonderful array of exotic animals, including 2 very cute meerkats, Boo-Boo the monitor lizard, a barn owl called Juliet, scorpion, Drake the snake.

It was such fun, we will defiantly be seeing Pete and the animals again the very near future.

Cycling Course

We have now run another course with Ed from Pedal Project, thanks to Morrisons and The Community Foundation for Surrey.

Ed uses lightweight Isla Bikes which are easy to control and the pedals come off so that they can be used at first as balance bikes to gain confidence.

Jack and Olivia’s Mum:

I just wanted to thank everyone who was involved in organising and funding the cycling lesson for my children Jack and Olivia. They both have complex learning needs and severe dyspraxia that was making riding a bike impossible for them both (or so I thought)!

We had no idea how amazing this course could be! Week one balancing without petals and pushing off. Week two riding with pedals independently. Week three riding confidently! They had never ridden a bike before! When you have children with additional needs you approach challenges with measured expectations. This was by far the most amazing thing I’ve ever seen them do. They were brimming with pride and the biggest smiles, and so was I. We really can’t thank you enough.

Leia’s Mum:

For years we have struggled to get Leia on a bike. We tried everything: bikes, trikes, bikes with handles, balance bikes, small bikes, big bikes – but nothing seemed to work. She so desperately wants to be like her big brother who she watches cycle off to school every day and her disappointment was heart breaking.

The past 3 weeks, over just 3 days, we have watched her go from not wanting to touch the handle bars to confidently using 2 feet to propel herself along, finding her balance and all the while (and most importantly) smiling… We are so grateful she was given this chance to yet again prove to herself and us that she can when given the correct support and plenty of the right encouragement.

Since the course, the kids have all received an Isla Bike and helmet to use at home.

Trip to see the Snow Queen at the Rose Theatre

In January, we had a brilliant opportunity to see a production at the Rose Theatre. We had 15 families and we took up all the wheelchair spaces at the Rose and enjoyed a signed performance which was of great benefit to many children. It was a fabulous production and all the family thoroughly enjoyed seeing it and spending some time together.
